MMFF 2007 Winners

33RD METRO MANILA FILM FESTIVAL 2007
Awards Night Winners
January 05, 2008

Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo still failed to get the Best Picture award (despite being the top-grossing film of the 33rd Metro Manila Film Festival 2007) during the awards night held Saturday, January 05, 2007 at SMX Convention Center in SM Mall of Asia.

Resiklo was the Best Festival Picture while Sakal was the 2nd Best Picture and Enteng Kabisote 4 was the 3rd Best Picture.

It can be recalled that last year, its prequel Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo was spared of winning the said award and lost to Enteng Kabisote 3, because the latter was initially the top grosser then.

As for the Best Director race, who would have thought that GMA News Reporter, first-time director Cesar Apolinario will win the award for his B-Rated film Banal and beat top contender Jose Javier Reyes, both for his A-rated films SSS and Katas ng Saudi.

Sen. Jinggoy Estrada's victory as Best Actor for Katas ng Saudi (his 1st acting award) was not surprising though. Same goes for Maricel Soriano as Best Actress for Bahay Kubo, Eugene Domingo as Best Supporting Actress for Bahay Kubo (her first too) and Nash Aguas as Best Child Performer for Shake, Rattle & Roll 9 (he was also last year's winner).

Veteran character actor Roi Vinzon got his very first acting award when he surprisingly snatched the Best Supporting Actor award for Resiklo beating Christopher de Leon (Banal) and Jiro Manio (Bahay Kubo). It's also his 2nd acting citation after he was nominated as Best Supporting Actor in FAMAS 2002 for Batas ng Lansangan but he did not win then.

Other than the 2nd Best Picture and 2nd Best Float awards, Sakal failed to win the majority of the awards unlike its predecessor KKK which won a total of 9 awards.

To count, Sen. Bong Revilla's Resiklo took home a total of eight (8) honors, followed by Bahay Kubo with five (5), then Katas ng Saudi with three (3).

Sakal, Desperadas and Banal all have two (2) awards each while Enteng, Shake and Manny Pacquiao's Anak ng Kumander each has one (1) award.

As you can notice, all nine (9) official entries won awards and the movies who won most of the awards are the ones who aren't faring so well in the box-office. At least, they could celebrate with the cash prizes.
