'Willing Willie', which is hosted by Willie Revillame and is currently off-air since April 11, has been suspended for 30 days or 1 month by the Movies and Television Review and Classification Board or the MTRCB in connection with the "Jan-Jan Incident" on Willing Willie's episode shown March 12. Here's MTRCB's official statement on Willing Willie's suspension:
e. Pagpapatibay sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at iba pang ahensiya ng gobyerno upang matiyak ang pangangalaga sa mga karapatan ng mga bata.
g. Pagbubuo ng Standards Compliance Group, na binubuo ng (i) the Standards Advisory Board, at ng (ii) Compliance Unit.
i. Pagtatalaga ng “Guidelines on the Treatment of Children as Viewers, Subjects, Talents or Participants,” sa pakikipagtulungan sa Philippine Children’s Television Foundation.
Sa Desisyon, nagpaalala ang MTRCB: “Celebrities and TV personalities should exercise the highest degree of care and diligence, as they are the most seen, and their reach and influence is far greater than any other individual. It is the responsibility of the network and their talents to educate themselves regarding: gender sensitivity, children and women’s rights issues; the rights of indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and other marginalized sectors of the society. Let this Decision stand as a reminder to all networks, producers, directors, public figures, celebrities and hosts that: We are all advocates. And as advocates, we are duty-bound to fight for a TV industry that does not only make us ‘eat for a day,’ but an industry that inspires, transforms, and moves us, to live better lives.”
As stated in the decision, MTRCB recognizes TV5's self-regulation by suspending Willing Willie starting April 11, and that could mean, Willing Willie may go back on air by May 11, but in a probationary status.
“Every day, the show will have to apply for a permit so that the board can check whether the changes have been instituted,” MTRCB legal counsel Jonathan Presquito said in an Inquirer.net interview.
Sharon Cuneta defended her husband, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, over the Senator's issue with Willing Willie host Willie Revillame. The issue about Sen. Kiko and Willie started when the Senator criticized Willie after the latter said on his program Willing Willie that he will sue those who criticized him on Twitter. (He changed his mind a few days later.)
That was in April 9 when Sen. Kiko posted this tweet on his official Twitter account (@kikopangilinan):
Some people took side with Sen. Kiko, but there were also those who criticized the Senator for making that remark on Twitter. (You can read some comments about the issue HERE).
In an ABS-CBN News interview, Sharon defended her husband's reaction against Willie Revillame, "Well I guess he’s a father kasi, he’s devoted.
And when asked about her personal opinion with regard to the "Jan-Jan incident" on Willie Revillame's show Willing Willie, Sharon refused to express opinion on the issue, but she believes though that not only one person is to be blamed with what happened. That’s my pananaw, hindi lang isang tao.”
I think that's an opinion already. Though she didn't mention Willie's name, she somehow believes that he is not the only one to be blamed.
And I actually agree with what Ms. Sharon said.
There was a mistake and it was not Willie's sole mistake.
As for Sir Willie, it's Holy Week, I hope he finds time to reflect that somehow he also made a mistake there. We all have our imperfections naman talaga.
This Holy Week, maybe let's also find time to pray for the betterment of all who got involved in this controversy, that they may finally find piece in their hearts, and also pray for the Filipino society, in general. We have lots of problems in our society, much worse than what happened on Willing Willie.
Willie Revillame and TV5 are claiming that the controversial Youtube video of "Jan-Jan" was a 'spliced' version of the actual March 12 episode of Willing Willie. Yesterday, March 15, a Facebook user named Anna Margarita Garcia, who describes herself as a Filipino citizen who isn't connected to ABS CBN, GMA or any other network, has posted on her FB account the transcription of the whole 48-minute "Kantanong" portion of Willing Willie where Jan-Jan was one of the 6 kiddie contestants.
This transcription was also published today on GMANews.Tv where the author pointed out that the transcript supports what host Willie Revillame, TV5 management and their counsels had been claiming that Jan-Jan cried in the show after he saw former basketball star Bonel Balingit and after he lost the game to another contestant.
Anna's transcription shows that Jan-Jan did the macho dance 5 times and that Willie said this line “Beer pa! Beer pa!" while Jan-Jan was dancing on a rising platform.

“Kantanong” Portion of Willing Willie (March 12, 2011 episode) Transcription by Anna Margarita Garcia on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 1:48pm “Kantanong” portion of Willing Willie (March 12, 2011 episode)
TRANSCRIBER’S NOTE: Before going on a two-week voluntary suspension on April 11, TV5’s primetime game show “Willing Willie” used to air Mondays to Saturdays.
The game show’s main segment “Wiltime Bigtime” has six contestants competing in two rounds: the elimination round “Kantanong” and the jackpot round “Spin a Wil.”
The game show host, Willie Revillame, would interview each of the contestants during “Kantanong” portion and have each of them showcase a talent. Depending on the contestant’s talent shown and the studio audience’s approval, Willie would give various amounts of cash rewards to each contestant.
All the contestants in the March 12 episode of Willing Willie in the Wiltime Bigtime portion were children.
TRANSCRIPTION BEGINS HERE
Contestants were called by pairs
1. Jenny, Grade 4, sang “Bring Me To Life” and got P5,000 as cash prize.
2. Joeann, 9-years old, sang “Stand Up For Life” and also got P5,000 as cash prize.
3. Madelle, 8-years old, sang “Would You Say You Love Me” and the host, Willie Revillame, praised her and asked her to sing again because she sang so well. Madelle said she wants to be famous. Willie asked why, and she replied that she wanted to help her parents. Willie asked her what was the first thing she would buy for her family once she was famous. Madelle started crying, and Willie stopped, sympathized and asked her to stop crying, wiped her tears and let her sing again. Madelle sang "Listen". After listening to Madelle sing, Willie gave her P15,000 as cash reward.
4. Ian, a little boy who did not disclose his age, sang a rap song to one of the game show dancers. He go P7,000 as cash reward.
On the fourth question, instead of saying “Kantanong!” Willie said “Question!” Then he corrected himself and said “Anong question!? *laughter* Anong tawag to. Kantanong! *laughter* Parang Wowowee tuloy to. *laughter* Baka sabihin pa nila ginagaya natin, eh dadudulas ah.” *laughter*
(TRANSCRIBER’S NOTE: “Wowowee” is the noontime show which Willie used to host in a different television network, ABS-CBN.)
5. Jan-Jan, 6-years old, went on stage. Willie to called over Bonel Balingit, a former basketball player, to stand beside him and Jan-Jan.
Willie said, "Jan Jan. Ano Jan? Suntukan, gusto mo? Ano? Parang naghahamon ka ng away! Ano? Ha? Ano?" Balingit and Jan-Jan looked at each other. *laughter* After Willie gave the little boy a high five, Jan-Jan smiled. Willie then permitted Jan-Jan to greet his parents.
Willie: “Sino? Sino may parlor?" Jan-Jan: “Si mama." Willie: “Yung tatay mo may ano?" Jan-Jan: “Parlor." *laughter* Willie: “Bakit may parlor ang tatay mo? Ano siya?" Jan-Jan: “Kasi, para hanap buhay." Willie: “Hanap buhay, ano ginagawa niya sa parlor?" Jan-Jan: “Gugupit." Willie: “Gugupit? Siya ba nag-gupit sa iyo?" Jan-Jan: “Opo." Willie: “Ilan taon na si Jan-Jan?" Jan-Jan: “6 po" Willie: “6 na! Sino paborito mong singer?" Jan-Jan: “Si…(pauses)… Okay, sino… Dancer? Mga dancer? Gusto mo ng dancing?"
Willie then asks if the boy’s parents were also in the studio game show set. The camera shows Jan-Jan’s aunt who had brought him to the show that day. Jan-Jan gets teary eyed after greeting & thanking his parents & aunt.
Willie: “Bakit ka naiiyak? Bakit ka naiiyak? Naiiyak ka? Sasayaw ka, ‘di ba? Pakita mo talent mo, Jan-Jan, ah? Pakiss muna si tito Willie. Palakpakan natin si Jan-jan!

TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE: TV5 management & counsel pointed out that out of the 48 minute portion of the episode, only a "spliced" 10-minute video clip was shown on YouTube. This transcription focuses on contestant number 5 because, precisely, he was the child allegedly subjected to abuse on the show. --

Mr. Jojo aka Joe and wife Diana Suan, parents of Jan-Jan Suan from the controversial March 12 episode on "Willing Willie", have filed a libel case Wednesday morning, April 13, against three people who allegedly accused them of abusing their child. Mr. & Mrs. Suan filed libel case against blogger John Silva, who blogs through johnsilva.blogspot.com, Froilan Grate, who initiated the Facebook Page "Para kay Jan-Jan (Shame on you Willie Revillame!)" and child psychologist Dra. Ma. Lourdes Carandang who happens to be the mother of Ricky Carandang, a former ABS-CBN news anchor and now a cabinet member of PNOY.
On the Facebook Page he administers, Froilan Grate has said that he's ready to face the libel charges. "A libel case was filed against me, John Silva and Dr. Carandang this morning. I believe their sole purpose is to scare us into silence. Are you scared? If standing up for the rights of a child is a crime, then I would gladly go to prison for it."
John Silva also posted comments in the said Facebook Page in connection with the libel case filed against him. "This was a clear move on the part of Ch 5. Last Friday, the channel said they would sue. Now they want the parents so it doesn't look like Manny Pangilinan is ganging up on us. Silly move."
He added, "INSIGHT: Manny Pangilinan can't seem to get things done on his own intelligence. He plagiarized from well known authors and now he's using Jan Jan's parents to do the dirty job. He insults our intelligence. We can see through this sh-t! On wards friends and expose this whole charade!"
***
John and Froilan are only after the welfare of Jan-Jan and in general, fighting for the rights of the children, but here they are being sued for it, and worse, by the child's own parents.
Jan-Jan Suan, the 6-year-old kid in the controversial March 12 episode of Willing Willie, was interviewed by TV host Cristy Fermin and was asked, "Ikaw ba Jan-Jan, binastos ka ba ni Willie Revillame?". And Jan-Jan just shook his head, meaning NO.
(As people say, kids don't lie.)
Watch a video of the interview, which also features Jan-Jan's parents also getting interviewed by Cristy Fermin:
I hope it will be the last time that the parents will show Jan-Jan on TV.
I have a question for you guys: do you think Jan-Jan is already capable of understanding that question?
Willing Willie will temporarily go off the air starting this Monday, April 11, 2011, as announced by its host Willie Revillame earlier, April 8. Here are the videos of the announcement uploaded on Youtube, with a transcript under it if in case the video isn't working or for mobile users who can't watch videos:
PART 1
(audience claps)
Naalala nyo 'yun.
Kanina ho, at for the past days, mga ilang araw ho, marami akong pinagdaanan eh.
"After po nung Wilyonaryo, nagkaroon po ng insidente with well-loved President, the late Cory Aquino.
"After po nung pangyayaring un, kinabukasan, dapat magti-taped (episode) kami.
"So after po nun, live yun, I'm sure nanonood ang mga tiga-ABS at totoo 'to. Wag na wag kayong magsisinungaling. Kahit saan tayo mapunta, haharapin ko 'to.
Walang nakakaalam nito eh.
Parang wala kaming respeto.
"Ano hong nangyari? Ang nangyari ito. Alam ng Diyos to.
I-stop yung show at bigyan na lang ako ng once a week show.
Sinong gagawa nito?
(applause from audience)
(Audience shouted NO!)
"Anong nagawa nyo? Anong nagawa nyo sa sambayanang Pilipino? (audience said "Wala")
(audience said "Tamaaa!!)
"Bakit? Dahil sinuportahan ko si Sen. Villar ganito tingin nyo sa kin? Nakita ko ung tao maganda puso eh, nakita ko ung tao tumutulong talaga sa mahihirap eh, kaya I'll stick with him.
Ung iba po dyan, 25 years, 20 years, 18 years na sa kanila.
(crowd went wild! can't understand what they're shouting)
"Alam nyo dapat suspended ang show, suspended last night ng 20 days to 30 days.
(clap)
"Di po ba tama yun? (crowd said "oo"!)
(Audience answered, "Hindi!")
"Meron bang gumagawa nyan? Kung may gumagawa man, mabuti, magsama-sama tayo.
(Yehey from the audience)
Thank you so much, magandang gabi po. Thank you!

On Willing Willie 's episode tonight, April 8, host Willie Revillame made a big announcement concerning himself and his show.
Willie announced first during the early part of the show that Willing Willie won't go live or will have a pre-taped episode tomorrow, April 9.
He also announced that all of its advertisers will be placing ads in the show only until tomorrow.
Then on the later part of the program, at already 9:45PM, Willie Revillame made a big announcement, which was actually not a surprising one, that Willing Willie will go off air for 2 weeks starting this Monday, April 11.
But before that announcement, he first recalled all his sad experiences as a host, starting with the time he was a host on ABS-CBN's Wowowee.
He recalled the ULTRA Stampede, the Wilyonaryo Scandal and the Cory Aquino Funeral.
Then on the middle part, he explained about the "Jan-Jan" controversy on Willing Willie last March 12. He believes that the Youtube video of Jan-Jan was edited and a sliced version of the actual Willing Willie episode.
Willie also fired back against those celebs who said something against him on Twitter. He enumerated their names: Jim Paredes, Aiza Seguerra, Agot Isidro, Mylene Dizon, Lea Salonga, Bianca Gonzales, Tuesday Vargas, K Brosas and Lea Navarro.
Then he said to them, "Nakagawa ba kayo ng tulong? Anong nagawa nyo?
To Aiza: "magpakalalake ka!"
To Agot: "wala ka namang anak"
To Bianca: "akala mo kung sino kayo?"
"May natulungan ba kayong mahirap?"

The last part of Willie's statement was his announcement that Willing Willie will go off air starting Monday and it's unsure whether he will come back when the show resumes after the Holy Week.
Procter & Gamble is the latest company to respond to a campaign to remove ads from the TV5 show Willing Willie in connection with its March 12 episode featuring "Jan-Jan", a 6-year-old macho dancing kid. In a statement sent to journalist/blogger Ellen Tordesillas from Procter & Gamble's Corporate Communications Officer Anama Dimapilis, the company said that they're aware of the "Jan-Jan incident" on Willing Willie and have decided to suspend placing ads on the show effective today.
"Procter & Gamble strives to advertise on programs that align with our values as a company and our purpose to touch and improve lives. We routinely monitor the media in which our brands' messages appear and make advertising decisions that meet our policies and achieve our goals. We are aware of the recent incident in the program of 'Willing Willie' and we have suspended advertising on the show beginning April 7, 2011, while the incident is being reviewed and investigated by authorities."
Procter & Gamble, who regularly advertises Head & Shoulders on Willing Willie, is among the 10+ advertisers who are being called to withdraw advertisements from the said primetime variety show.
Two (2) companies (Jollibee Foods Corporation and Del Monte Philippines) have already pulled out their ads from Willing Willie while CDO Foodsphere Inc. revealed in a statement that they will still continue placing ads in the controversial program.
The 'Jan-Jan incident' on Willing Willie last March 12, 2011 has prompted Jollibee Foods Corporation and Del Monte Philippines to pull out their ads from the said TV5 variety show. Jollibee's decision to pull out its Mang Inasal ads from the Willie Revillame-hosted Willing Willie was posted on the Facebook Page "Para kay Jan-jan (Shame on you Willie Revillame!)" last April 1, which was actually Jollibee's response to Mr. Froilan Grate, who started the Facebook campaign.
"Dear Mr. Grate,
Thank you for your inquiry. For perspective, Jollibee, Chowking, Greenwich and Red Ribbon do not have ad placements in the Willing Willie program. Mang Inasal will be holding off placements within the week. We are aware of the issues and the various sentiments raised regarding the Willing Willie program “Janjan” incident last March 12, 2011. We are monitoring this closely and we are awaiting the results of the network’s investigation.
Rest assured that the JFC group remains committed to upholding the welfare of children. We trust that the appropriate and expert institutions will also respond and look into this matter with urgency. Like you, we are also hoping for a quick and rightful resolution of this matter.
Thank you for your concern.
Sincerely,
Pauline Lao Corporate Media – Jollibee Foods Corporation"
Meanwhile, Del Monte Philippines has also followed through as announced on Facebook by writer and arts education advocate John Silva: "Del Monte has dropped its current Fit N Right spots in Willing Willie and has cancelled all future ad placements including Heart Smart, Pineapple Juice, Pineapple Tidbits and Del Monte Tomato Sauce.."
But CDO Foodsphere Inc, maker of CDO Karne Norte and other canned meat products, is not joining Jollibee and Del Monte in pulling out ads from Willing Willie.
According to the statement posted on its official website, CDO has decided to continue sponsoring TV5 shows until the end of its prior advertising commitment with them.
Other advertisers such as Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Oishi, Aldrtz, Cherry Mobile, Technomarine, Cebuana Lhuillier, Smart, Bench and the Belo Medical Group have no plan yet of pulling out their sponsorships from Willing Willie.
Willing Willie's episode last March 12, which featured a sexy dance of an innocent 6-year-old boy, is now making global headlines after it has become a national controversy in the Philippines. Several international news organizations have already reported about the said controversial episode in their respective web sites.
For this issue to catch global attention, there must be something wrong with that Willing Willie episode.
I feel sad for Jan-Jan coz he might suffer trauma for the so-much media hype, not only in the Philippines but also in the world. He will grow up being haunted by this controversy.
'Willing Willie' March 12 episode, which featured 6-year-old Jan-Jan Suan doing macho dance in exchange of P10,000, has been strongly condemned by the Commission on Human Rights or CHR. In its statement released March 29, 2011, CHR noted that the said March 12 episode of Willing Willie exploited Jan-Jan's innocence and demeans his inherent dignity for entertainment's sake.
CHR also pointed out that Willing Willie and its host Willie Revillame are not the only ones who committed child abuse, but also Jan-Jan's parents because of their willingness to expose him to such humiliating and degrading situation.
Last March 28, Jan-Jan's parents already appeared on Willing Willie and for them, the show and its host did not abuse their child. (Read about it HERE and join the discussion).
Here's the full statement, as posted on Facebook by journalist Ms. Ellen Tordesillas:
Commission on Human Rights For Release 29 March 2011
CHR on Child Abuse in the TV program Willing Willie
The Commission on Human Rights strongly condemns the “Willing Willie” episode aired on March 12, 2011 wherein a 6-year old boy named Jan-Jan Suan performed a “macho-dancing routine”. This is an exploitation of the child’s innocence and demeans his inherent dignity for entertainment's sake.
The multiple pressures exerted on Jan-Jan by the TV program’s host, audience, and his parents to perform a humiliating act in exchange for ten thousand pesos constitute child abuse as defined in Section 10 of R.A. No. 7610 or “Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.” It provides that:
Other Acts of Neglect, Abuse, Cruelty or Exploitation and Other Conditions Prejudicial to the Child's Development. –
(a) Any person who shall commit any other acts of child abuse, cruelty or exploitation or to be responsible for other conditions prejudicial to the child's development including those covered by Article 59 of Presidential Decree No. 603, as amended, but not covered by the Revised Penal Code, as amended, shall suffer the penalty of prision mayor in its minimum period.
The willingness of Jan-Jan’s parents to expose him, both in private and public, to a humiliating and degrading situation is child abuse. The Commission is also deeply alarmed that the abuse suffered by Jan-Jan was seen on national television and that its videos are being repeatedly watched by the public, including children.
The Commission will investigate this incident in order to identify the person/s liable and to recommend proper legal actions against them. The Commission will also issue recommendations to relevant private, especially TV5, and public agencies in order to prevent similar incidents from happening again. The Commission also calls upon the relevant government offices such as the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the Department of Justice to undertake the appropriate actions to address this incidence of child abuse and to provide the necessary relief to Jan-Jan.
LORETTA ANN P. ROSALES Chairperson
MA. VICTORIA V. CARDONA Commissioner Focal Commissioner for Children
Meanwhile, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board or MTRCB will also release their own findings with regards to that Willing Willie episode this coming Monday, April 4, 2011.

Speaking of that March 12 episode of Willing Willie, a video of it uploaded on Youtube has already reached more than half a million views.
Willing Willie's episode last night, March 28, 2011, featured again 6-year-old Jan-Jan Suan and this time with his parents to defend Willing Willie and its host Willie Revillame against allegations that the show and the host have abused their child during its March 12 episode. Jan-Jan's appearance on Willing Willie last March 12 where he showcased his "macho dancing" skills as his talent has become a controversial topic on the internet, most especially yesterday, to the extent that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has issued a statement, condemning the said episode and deemed it as a violation of the Child Abuse law. (Read more about it HERE).
"Willing Willie" even made it to Twitter's top trending topics worldwide last night, just because of that.
And now, on last night's episode of Willing Willie, Jan-Jan brought along his parents to explain that they didn't teach Jan-Jan the said dance (it's his elder cousin who taught the dance), that for them Willing Willie and its host Willie Revillame did not abuse their child.
According to Jan-Jan's dad Jojo Estrada, who has his own parlor business, his son has been doing the said dance since he was 4 years old and he loves to dance to the tune of "Careless Whisper" (the controversial song in the Hayden Kho - Katrina Halili video scandal.)
Jan-Jan's mom has also pointed out that some shows in other channels, they mentioned ABS-CBN's Goin' Bulilit, are the ones that DSWD should look into.

Willing Willie host Willie Revillame, its producers and the TV5 Management have issued a joint statement expressing their sincerest apologies to the March 12, 2011 episode of Willing Willie. That particular episode featured 6-year-old studio player Jan-Jan Suan for the show's "Wiltime Bigtime" segment wherein the child did a "macho dancing" during the talent portion. (Watch video HERE).
Here's Willie Revillame and TV5's statement of apology as posted on Interaksyon.com, the online news portal of TV5:
Mr. Willie Revillame, the producers of "Willing Willie" and TV5 sincerely and deeply apologize for the segment of the show featuring 6-year-old Jan-Jan Suan which viewers may have found offensive or in bad taste. We wish to stress that there was never any intention to humiliate or abuse Jan-Jan or any contestant on the show.
"Willing Willie" is a program that was conceptualized to bring joy and hope and shine the spotlight on ordinary Filipinos. The program aims to provide a venue for everyone to show their talents, tell their stories and make their dreams come true. This is the thrust of everyone involved in the program, particularly its host, Willie Revillame.
Like most contestants on the show, Jan-Jan, accompanied by his aunt, joined the program to showcase his talent and play in a game segment in the hope of bringing home big prizes. He has performed in the past in school programs and mall contests, and his performance in "Willing Willie" was completely voluntary and with the blessings of his parents.
He appeared to be sad or even in tears, not because he was being forced to dance, but because he felt the dance was "serious" and he was playing a role. He did not want to smile because of his missing upper front teeth and because of the presence on the set of former basketball player Bonel Balingit who Jan-jan thought was a scary "giant".
Again, TV5 and Wil Productions express profound regret for any insensitivity on their part, and wish to thank all those who have expressed concern. We are always grateful to be reminded of our obligations to the viewing public. In turn, we hope to make clear that the objective of the show has always been to bring joy and hope to Filipinos, whether they are participating on the show or viewing at home.

As what you can read in the statement, it says that what Jan-Jan did was completely voluntary. But how can they explain the later part of the show wherein Jan-Jan was shown dancing on a platform? Was it still voluntary? Did Jan-Jan ask for it or was asked to do so by Willie?
