Philippine Rugby Team soars even higher

The Philippine National Rugby Team has just won in the HSBC Asian 5 Nations Division 2 competition held Saturday, June 5, at the Delhi
University Rugby Stadium in India.

They competed against the team from India & despite the Indians receiving the loudest cheers from the spectators, the Filipino team
managed to pull off another sweet victory.

The Philippine rugby team was already soaring high the first time I featured them in July '09. That time, they were still in Div. 3 & later promoted to the Div. 2 of HSBC Asian 5 tournament.

And for this year, the team has soared even higher as their latest
victory in India promoted them to Division 1. That means, they're a
step closer to the Top 5, which will give them the chance to qualify for the Rugby World Cup.

Next year, the RP team will compete against any among Singapore, Malaysia and Korea in the Division 1. Whoever wins there will be promoted to the Top 5, which is currently composed of Japan, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, Arabian Gulf & Sri Lanka.

It feels great that I'm able to follow their progress through the years. They came to my attention first when some of the players were among the Cosmo 69 Bachelors for 2008. That time, they were still in Div. 4.

Then last year, they were in Div. 3 & this 2010, they've just
competed in Div. 2 & promoted to Div. 1.

And maybe the next time I'll make a post about them, they're already
promoted to the Asian Top 5.

Congrats to the Philippine National Rugby Team for bringing pride to
the countr! May you continue getting mightier (and also hotter).

Check out some of their pictures (on & off the rugby field):
