MYKIRU'S FIRST CATCH and EXCLUSIVE
The organizers of Mister International Philippines announced yesterday the 16 official candidates for its 2009 search.
They were selected among those who were screened last August 1, 8, 22 and 30, then on September 5, 12, 19 and finally on October 3-4.
The Top 16 official candidates for Mister International Philippines 2009 who survived the preliminary screenings are: Summerboys' Michael 'Mike' Acuña, Hair Asia 2008 National Open Champion Kerwin Caballero, Registered Nurses Alvin de Joya and Francis Soo, Prince of Negros 2009 Mark Gargoles, Cosmo Bachelor 2009 Anton Vincent Malko, Customer Service Representative Raphael Grafil, Fil-Iranian Farzam Nasirian, ex-Cappuccinos member Adrian Harald Petry, Man of the Year 2009 contestant Francis Salazar, La Sallista Nickoline John Bassey Mangoba and model Abdul Wallace, who is the son of the owner of the famous Bohol Bee Farm.
The controversial Mark Christian Daniel, who has been heavily bashed since August 1 screening, indeed makes it as one of the 16 official candidates.
His haters have been claiming before the announcement that he has a guaranteed placement in the finals. Pageant director Mike Lim denied such allegation and stressed that all candidates were judged fairly based on the pageant criteria and qualifications.
Also making it to the list of official candidates are Peter Dee, Generation East Model Search 2007 winner Jamemark Versoza and of course Franco Ramos, who topped the 1st official poll conducted here on Mykiru.
Unfortunately, student and call center agent Jarold Guina, who garnered an amazing 76% of the total votes in the 2nd poll, failed to make the cut.
Aside from Jarold Guina, other poll favorites who didn't earn a slot in the official Top 16 candidates are Cosmo 2009 Bachelors Julian Roxas and Dale Dizon, bodybuilder John Alexis Delima, Ginoong Filipinas-Visayas 2006 Leighton Galzote, National University's volleyball varsity player Jan Jasper Adorador, models Jacob Johnson and Rafael Felix Tolentino.
The screening committee have stressed that they considered the poll results, but it was not their sole basis in choosing the 16 official candidates.
In a message sent to me by Mike Lim, he said that some of the poll favourites did not make it because of height factor. The height limit is 5'10".
The tallest candidate in the Top 16 is Francis Soo at 6'3" while the shortest is Kerwin Caballero, 5'10".
The oldest contestants are Mike Acuna and Francis Salazar, both 24, while Adrian Harold Petry is the youngest at 18.
